The Way Your Home Connects to the Outdoors
Defines How You Live Inside It.

Connection without comfort isn’t design — it’s distraction.
Discover what’s possible with Solera Reserve™

For over 30 years, Solera® has been used in museums, schools, airports and cultural landmarks to bring glare-controlled daylight, thermal comfort and privacy to demanding spaces.

Solera Reserve™ brings that same performance-led, glass-based translucent glazing approach to refined residential design, giving architects and homeowners more freedom to balance daylight, privacy, views and comfort.

Your Goal: Design the very best home for you and your family.

Better homes carefully manage the connection between the interior and exterior. This is challenging with conventional building materials.

THE PROBLEM WITH OPAQUE

We start by building with opaque materials.

Brick, concrete, cladding — these protect us from the elements and offer great insulation and privacy. But when we use too much opaque, we end up creating a home that looks and feels dull and ordinary; dark and cave-like.

SO WE ADD CLEAR GLASS

Clear glass adds light — but at a cost.

Big glass looks spectacular and brings in views and connection to the outside. But it also comes with excessive heat, painful glare, a lack of privacy, and ultimately, blinds.

THE RESULT

Home-owners are forced to choose:

  • Light or comfort
  • Views or privacy
  • Aesthetic or performance

Perfect world glazing

In a perfect world…

Wouldn’t it be great if a glazing material could keep you connected to nature while turning harsh sunlight into gentle, comfortable light? With the right balance of vision glass and translucent glazing, it can help manage glare, preserve the views that matter, provide privacy where you need it, and reduce reliance on blinds.

We now have a building material that bridges the gap between Transparent and Opaque to create better homes for people and the environment:

Introducing a third option

Translucent Glazings

How translucent glazings work for you:

Translucent glazings convert harsh, direct-beam sunlight into gentle, diffused daylight, deep into the space.

Solera Reserve™ is designed to soften direct sunlight into comfortable, diffused daylight. By balancing vision glass with translucent glazing, the right configuration can help manage glare and hot spots while preserving the views and privacy that matter most in your home.

1

Frame Your Views

Strategically place vision glass where you want clear sightlines and connection to the outdoors — not excessively, as too much leads to glare and hot spots.

2

Add Translucent Glazing

Place translucent glazing above, below, or beside vision glass to bring soft, diffused daylight into the room. With the right configuration, it can help manage glare, preserve your views, and reduce reliance on blinds.

3

Complete with Opaque

Add opaque building materials where you don’t need views or daylight — structure, privacy, and insulation where it counts.

A better home for you and your family

The result is a better home that not only looks amazing inside and out but also feels great to be in — beautifully connected to nature, comfortable, and with unobstructed views.

Ready to choose a translucent glazing?

When designing your dream home, you will want it to look and perform the way you designed it, for as long as possible. Many homeowners also want to avoid materials that have a negative impact on the health and well-being of their family as well as the environment.

Your choice of translucent glazing material has a direct impact. This is why it’s so important to understand your options.

Understanding Your Options

Fiber-Reinforced Plastic (FRP) and Polycarbonate systems were pioneers of translucent glazings, offering strong light diffusion and respectable insulation values. However, as plastic-based products, they fall well short of today’s sustainability expectations. Prone to UV degradation and discoloration, they often require replacement within 10 to 20 years — making them, in essence, a form of architectural single-use plastic.

Acid-Etched Glass and White Laminate Glass offer longevity and visual appeal due to being glass-based. However, their performance stops at the surface. These materials lack the ability to diffuse light properly to mitigate glare or eliminate hot spots, and their low insulation values can result in uncomfortable interiors — too hot in summer, too cold in winter.

The Solution:

Solera® – The Ideal Translucent

Solera Reserve installed in a residential entry

Like acid etched and white laminate, Solera® is a glass-based translucent glazing unit, designed for a lasting architectural finish without the UV-driven yellowing and replacement cycle associated with plastic glazing. Its transferable limited warranty covers specified veil-colour change, light-transmittance loss, seal failure, and deterioration of the insulating insert.

And like Fibre Reinforced Plastics, it delivers high insulation values alongside high Light Diffusion Power™ (LDP), spreading daylight evenly throughout the space and softening contrast between bright and dark areas. With the right configuration, it can help manage glare and hot spots. Unlike plastic FRP systems, the glass surface does not yellow under UV exposure, supporting a consistently comfortable interior with reduced reliance on blinds.

Solera® Supports Better Living

Children benefiting from natural daylight

Solera® brings full-spectrum natural daylight into the home, transforming raw sunlight into soft, diffused light while helping maintain privacy and protect views.

Daylight is the body’s primary daytime cue for circadian rhythm. In the Heschong Mahone Group’s 1999 study of 21,000 school records across three districts, students in classrooms with the most daylighting progressed 20% faster in math and 26% faster in reading than students in classrooms with the least daylighting. Artificial LED lighting can brighten a room, but it cannot replace the continually changing spectrum and intensity of full-spectrum natural daylight. At home, Solera® makes that daylight part of everyday living without blinds blocking the windows.
