Solera® is the only daylighting system with Light Diffusing Power – a proprietary measurement and rating system from Advanced Glazings that allows building designers to compare the light diffusing ability of various glasses and coatings.

Selecting the right glazing has always been critical to the success of a daylighting project. But it hasn't always been easy. It used to require poring over large, multi-dimensional sets of data that only an optics expert or computer simulation program could translate. Until now.

Light Diffusing Power from Advanced Glazings is a simple rating system that allows a designer to easily compare the performance of light diffusing glazings, and differentiate them to make the right daylighting choice.

The glazing sample is illuminated by a quartz halogen spotlight, at an incidence of 45 degrees. A light meter measures the radiant intensity leaving the aperture in the mask that covers the back of the sample. The measurement is repeated over a range of angles from -85 to +85 and the results are recorded. (Measurements at exactly 90° not physically possible).

While products such as Acid Etched Glass and White Laminated Glass can be classified as "Narrow Angle Light Diffusers," Solera® – with its exceptional light diffusion – is classified as a "Wide Angle Light Diffuser." For a technical brief on the LDP setup and experiment, contact us today.

More About Aerogel

Cabot's aerogel is among the lightest and most effective insulating materials in the world. Cabot's aerogel, formerly Nanogel®, is a solid which consists largely of air (>90%) contained in a structure with pore sizes less than the mean free path of air molecules, which severely inhibits heat transfer through the material, enabling world-class performance. Cabot produces aerogel at its state of the art manufacturing facility located near Frankfurt, Germany where it began commercial production in 2003.
